2021-2022 Season
Buckeye Vertical placed 1st in Vertical Flight Society's 2021-2022 Design-Build-Vertical Flight Student Competition! The competition challenged us to build a light aircraft (pictured below) that was able to carry a payload and complete missions manually and autonomously.
VFS Design-Build-Vertical Flight Competition
The Vertical Flight Society (VFS) Design-Build-Vertical Flight (DVBF) student competition seeks to encourage interest in vertical flight technology, air vehicle design, and fabrication. The contest is designed to develop hands-on skills and familiarization with electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at the university student level, as well as prepare the next generation of leaders to push the limits of this exciting technology into the future.
2020 - 2021 Season
Despite an unprecedented 2020-2021 year, our members should be extremely proud of themselves as they have successfully completed Vertical Flight Society’s Inaugural Design-Build-Vertical Flight Student Competition. After scoring among the top three universities for our Preliminary Design Report in December, submitting the Final Technical Report in March, and presenting our electric-powered remote-control vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to the judges in April, we concluded our first competition season.
Overall, we placed 3rd among the competing universities, and it was great opportunity to represent The Ohio State University.
